My Thoughts On Grad School

What two degrees at UC Davis actually taught me, and what I'd tell someone deciding whether to go.

A quick confession: this entire blog post was shamelessly written by AI. The whole point was an experiment in process. Rather than staring at a blank document, I picked a topic, had an AI interview me, and let it synthesize my spoken stream-of-consciousness into a concise, readable piece. Part of the motivation is personal—as someone who spends disproportionately more time reading than speaking, I wanted an excuse to actually practice vocalizing my ideas out loud. 4. The Translation Problem: The Best Chart Beats the Fancy Model

  • Escaping the Academic Echo Chamber: The disconnect between talking to other statisticians versus communicating with stakeholders who don't know what a pp-value is.
  • The Power of Simplicity: Why complex machine learning models often fail to persuade in industry, whereas a clear bar graph, box plot, or Stats 100 visualization drives actual business decisions.
